Your first dance as a married couple is one that you will never forget.  For some people, this is the first time they have ever danced in front of people and for others it’s an intimate moment shared with all their family and friends.  Go over some tips that we have below to calm your nerves and get advice on your first dance.

The Song

Although it is important to choose a song that is romantic and graceful, it is equally as important to choose a meaningful song.  Some couples try to choose a common R&B or classic pop song so that their guests will enjoy it, however the song should have meaning to the couple as well.  You should choose a song that both of you love.  It could mean something in your relationship like a song played at the restaurant on your first date or music that was played in the background of your romantic proposal, but the bottom line is that you two will enjoy this once in a lifetime dance if you enjoy the song.  Additionally, if your song is longer than about 3 minutes, you can ask your DJ or band to fade it out or mix it into some dance music at the end for everyone to join in on.

The Dance

Enjoy this dance.  It should be romantic, exciting, fun, and beautiful.  Although this dance should reflect your relationship and personalities, many people of nervous for it.  The simple solution for butterflies in your stomach are dance lessons.  A couple of private lessons with your beau can be fun and calming.  Your instructor can give you pieces of advice and give their opinion on who should lead and who should follow.  You can also practice dancing in front of an audience or on the stage of your reception hall to familiarize yourselves with these often daunting aspects of the first dance.

Entertaining

Although this dance is a romantic moment between you and your partner and the start of your new lives together, some people are concerned about their guests.  There are simple ways to entertain your guests during your first dance.  You and your partner could plan a couple of exciting steps in your routine.  Be cautious not to do anything too crazy if either of you are novice dancers, just try a simple dip or the classic twirl.  If you do decide to try something unique or tricky, plan some time to pause for the camera so that you can get a memorable photo.  Another way to entertain your guests is to have a special entrance, exit, or both.  Some couples do a dramatic entrance or a little skit before they start their dance.  Others try a funny ending or mix into a hip-hop or funny song after their romantic moments to have some fun of their own and make the audience laugh.

Although this can be a nerve wrecking performance, it should also be a beautiful celebration between you and your partner.  Sometimes it helps to forget about everyone else in the room and think about how you two will spend the rest of your lives together.  Don’t forget that this dance is for the two of you to enjoy your moment in bliss before you dance the night away with your friends and family.
