Find the Right Wedding Photographer

Finding the perfect photographer to capture your most precious moments can be challenging for a bride to be. Photography is one of the most vital aspects of your wedding day and your photographer can capture the emotion and moments for you to look back on for the rest of your life. To help you out, we have prepared a list of questions that you should ask your photographer during your interview.
Will you personally be the photographer for our wedding?
This is very important because you need to know who you will be working directly with on your wedding day. When we meet our clients, they are looking for someone that they can trust and find easy to get along with. Many times, we have the pleasure of photographing their family and friends events to come long after the wedding. Larger photographer companies may have contract photographers on hand and you may not know who will be photographing your wedding day. In any case, make sure that you meet your photographer before booking to make sure your expectations of their skill level and artistic style match your needs.
Are you a full time photographer?
This question is important because you need to know that your business is their top priority. There are many companies who do not do photography full time. As prices in professional photography equipment have dropped down to the consumer level, many people believe that they can be become a professional photographer. I like to remind my clients that a good camera does not make a good photographer anymore than a good pencil makes a good author. You want to hire a professional who has been educated and trained in his field. Running a business is more than a full time job and the photographer you hire should make you their number one priority.

How long have you been a wedding photographer?
You need to hire a photographer who is experienced and trust-worthy. An experienced photographer should have back up cameras, lenses, batteries, flashes and most importantly is to be insured. It is also wise to request references from your photographer to be. In addition, a strong company can show you a portfolio of both their recent and past work. We recommend hiring someone who has shown you several complete wedding albums. In addition, many photography companies now feature blogs in addition to their website to show off their most recent work. This is a fun way to view their style and view current promotions they may be having. Check out the eWed Photography Blog.
What kind of wedding coverage do you provide?
Brides! This is one of the most important questions that you will ask. You need to know that all aspects of your wedding day will be photographed from the time that you are getting ready putting on your dress and veil to the cake cutting and garter toss at the end of the night. This is the only way that you can have a truly complete wedding album. Therefore, it is important that you find a photographer who values you as person more than as a dollar sign. Unfortunately, most photography companies will charge you by the hour. This is an easy way for them to earn extra money by charging you overtime on your wedding day. Do you really want an added expense of several hundred dollars at the end of your wedding night?
When we created our company, we vowed to serve one couple for the entire wedding day with two professional photographers. This has allowed us to work comfortably with our clients to capture their day in a relaxed environment. Our clients appreciate that there are absolutely no overtime fees with any package that they choose so they can save money, reduce stress and be confident that their first family heirloom will be beautiful and complete. Wow! That’s great that she was worth it, photography is so important. According to statistics, photography and videography are the most common things that recent brides wish they had spent more money on for their wedding.

I love your site, and the design. I’m a Wedding photographer, who didn’t hire a Wedding photographer for my own wedding. I have so many photographer friends, and I thought, hey, I’ll save money this way. Although I got some great shots, they weren’t experienced in getting all those important details. Looking back, I wish I had hired a Wedding photographer. Thanks for posting all this great information!

wow great article! being a professional wedding photographer, i understand the importance of having a photographer for such an important event. it should definitely be someone you trust and know will be by your side all day. this is why i don’t charge for my time, rather the day. i think brides/grooms should be focused solely on their day, not what time I’m leaving or if they’ll have to pay extra. i also think that your photographer should be just as excited and caring about your day as you are. nothing breaks my heart more than hearing a story of a couple not getting superb photography at whatever cost. good luck brides!
great blog by the way
such a great resource!

I thoroughly enjoyed this article – I firmly believe that a professional wedding photographer should not only have a strong portfolio, but a rich history of experience in his or her field. He or she should be educated in photography and possess a personality that inspires and incites play and positive response. After all, the photojournalistic approach requires not only technical acuity, strong work, education and experience, but a winning personality given that we work in close proximity with our clients for up to 14 hours on the day of.
