What’s new with weddings in 2009?  Many of the existing 2008 trends still stand, however there are a few things that are in and out for wedding trends in this upcoming year.  Although there are certain trends, the bride and groom should ultimately do what they like and what they can afford for their wedding day.  Still, it’s always nice to be out with the old and in with the new.  This article will go through what’s hot and what’s not in the wedding world this year.

That is SO Out!

Tiaras – Brides…no matter how much you want to wear a tiara and feel like a princess, it’s not what’s going on in 2009.  Although the blushing bride wearing a tiara gives a royally innocent look, it’s just not elegant anymore.  Instead try velcro-in gem stones in flowing hair or bun jewelry that can be simply be clipped into your hairstyle.

Long Sleeved Bridal Gowns – Long sleeves in lace are definitely not the way to go anymore.  The lacy long sleeved gown was beautiful, but has worn out it’s time.  The downside of this dress style is that is does get too warm with these sleeves, particularly for summer weddings.  Additionally, the puff shoulder sleeves are way out well before the calendar struck 2009.

Dull Colored Bridesmaid Dresses - Dull colors like beige, pale yellow, and grey aren’t popular for bridesmaids dresses.  The bridesmaids are not miniature brides, so it won’t take any attention off of the bride if you have them stand out with bright and beautiful colors.

Hot Trends for 2009

Two Bridal Looks - Change it up between the wedding and reception.  Some brides even buy two different dresses for the ceremony and receptions.  If you can’t afford or don’t like the idea of two different dresses, you can simply let your hair down in flowing curls or create a bolder look through your make-up.

Empire Waist Bridal Gowns – Yes, this has been a popular type of bridal gown throughout 2008, but it’s making it’s way into 2009 as well.  The great thing about the empire waist gowns is it can take emphasis off your waist if you think it’s a little wide or undefined.  Still, nothing can beat the ever-so popular style of the sleeveless bridal gown that has been the most commonly chosen style for years.

Go Bold! - Brighter and bolder colors are in for 2009.  Don’t be afraid to try some hot hues of red, yellow or orange for your reception decorations, centerpieces, cake, or bridesmaid dresses.  Although, incorporating this idea into your entire wedding gown is not recommended, accents and colored embroidery look beautiful.  This will make your pictures pop and all the decor will come together when the colors are bold.

Brocade and Beads – This idea is popping up with designers all over the world!  Having brocade or beading on your wedding gown looks fabulous.  You can also incorporate it into your table cloths or bridesmaids’ dresses.  The recommended colors for brocade and beads are off white, silver, gold, or pearl.  The trend is leaning towards using unique fabrics with these glimmering decals like cotton lace, tulle, or charmeuse.

Enjoy planning your wedding with these fun trends. What we learned in 2008 was to stay as green as possible when planning your wedding, and that is leading well into 2009 and the future.  Although trends are nice and fancy, it’s still your wedding day and it should look and feel like your, not someone else’s.  Stick with your vision and add some fanciness here and there to create a truely elegant and 2009 wedding celegration.  Happy Trending!

It’s good to hear that bright colors are going to be the trend this year. I think red and hot pink photograph beautifully so brides-to-be should take this into consideration. Also, red is an auspicious color. I’m sure brides want all the luck they can get on their special day.
