Current Wedding Trends

Weddings in 2008 and earlier have created some great trends that are so popular they will lead into 2009 and on. Tradition is a must, but trends are important in your wedding too. Trendy touches ensure that you are up-to-date with the latest and greatest styles for your wedding. Here are some of the trends that can add a special touch to your wedding:
Wedding Dress – The traditional white wedding dress will always be a classic choice, but now-a-days brides have a highlight of color in their wedding dresses. Sometimes it’s a colorful bow in the back, beading on the front, or flowing designs in the train. This color usually matches the color of the bridesmaid dresses and bridal bouquet. Some delicate colors are peach, pink, light green, and light blue, but this can flow with any color the bride likes.
Lighting – The most popular trend in lighting is a lighted stencil shining on a wall at the reception with the married couple’s initials (like R & S) or names in a fancy font. This is becoming a must-have at wedding receptions and is probably one of the most popular trends in 2008.

Wedding Websites – Since the internet is revolutionizing society, why not use it to ease your wedding planning experience? Wedding websites can have links to wedding gift registries, RSVP maintenance, and commenting options. Not only is this a trend, but it makes planning your wedding easier and more organized.
Music – The most popular type of music for a wedding reception is still the DeeJay. Many people love bands and live music (especially us at Planning Elegance), but the trend is still the good old DeeJay and it doesn’t look like they’re going anywhere for a while.
Cake – Ditch the traditional white on white symmetrical wedding cakes. The new style in cake decor is asymmetrical and askew. Additionally, these unique cakes are quite colorful and have candy flowers with other decorations on them.

Entertainment – Entertainment at the wedding reception is a must-have and belly-dancers have become a popular choice. Some people may think this sounds a little weird, but there are plenty of classy dancers that are appropriate for entertaining all ages. Mariachi performers have also become a popular choice at wedding receptions for any nationality.
Centerpieces – Traditional centerpieces utilize flowers in vases and new styles have fruit slices in vases. Sometimes the vases still have flowers above the fruit slices and candles around the centerpieces. The most common fruits used are oranges, but I can see this trend taking off in many directions. The point is to be creative and open-minded to new and beautiful table decorations.
The best weddings are the ones that have personal touches from the bride and groom. So be extraordinary when choosing details for your wedding and create your own trends. You don’t have to have a super-trendy wedding, but some new ideas will give your wedding an extra kick! Have fun while planning your wedding day!

Amen to being different. But the bottom line is have fun, make your wedding day special for the 2 of you and try HARD not to stress out. Here is to hoping this is your one and only wedding day, so make it special, plan ahead, make it fit your personality and take a big deep breath, enjoy the moment and your special day.

This is a great list of trends highlighting different options for weddings.
We’d like to add the move toward small bites instead of big plates. While South Asian wedding buffets have used this approach for a long time, we’re seeing other types of weddings also moving toward a greater variety of foods to compliment the wedding experience.
Our own company, Bite Catering Couture, has been freeing people from traditional seating with 3 courses by bringing more of a tapas-style or hors d’oeuvre style catering to weddings, allowing guests to mingle more freely and enjoy food in small bites as they participate in dancing, toasting, speeches, etc over the course of an evening.

Yummy! Tapas, Hors’dourves, and appetizers sound so delectable! At wedding receptions, 3 course dinners often take too long to serve, plus then there are waiters rushing around everywhere trying to get people through the courses in a timely manner, I agree with Vijay and think that would be a great trend for the wedding industry.
